Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment

Preliminary FRA is a high level assessment of flood risk, based on historical floods, and potential future flood risk. The assessment is key decision to produce Flood Hazard Maps and Flood Risk Maps together with Flood Risk Management Plans.

Since using hydrodynamic flood models is complex, costly and requires large efforts for data collection, the need for prioritization of domain and localization of high flood risk places is essential. The preliminary FRA Tool is designed in order to identify where significant fluvial flood risk in river basin takes place.
By using objective analysis the tool supports decision makers with reasonable and secure result on the basis of the threshold effect for proper future flood risk management activities in terms of objectives and measures.

Together with Land use map an overall risk score is calculated to reflect the effects on people and places.

Features include:

  • The tool deals with input data that is very wide available. Together with Land use map and overall risk score is calculated to reflect the effects on people and places.
  • Conceptual method of evaluation based on latest software and on an innovative and cost effective approach.
  • The tool is GIS-based stand-alone application uses.
  • Homogenous results for whole area.
